Mr. Johnson received his bachelor's degree cum laude from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas in 1975. He was awarded the Putnam Scholarship and inducted into Phi Kappa Phi honor society. He next attended the University of Kansas School of Law in Lawrence, Kansas where he received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1978.
As a practicing plaintiff’s trial lawyer through the 1980's, Mr. Johnson developed innovative uses of film, video and graphics for litigation and mediation. As computer graphics evolved, he acquired skills in the creation and manipulation of three-dimensional computer models. In 1992 a 3D animation of a complicated piece of industrial equipment created by Johnson assisted a jury in finding liability and awarding over 17 million dollars to the families of three workmen injured in a plant explosion.
After relocating to San Jose, California in 1993, Mr. Johnson founded Second Chair Litigation Support as a company devoted to applying high-level demonstrative evidence techniques to major litigation projects. In 1998 Mr. Johnson co-founded Visual Forensics with Dr. Arthur Ginsburg in San Ramon, California. As the director of forensic animation for Visual Forensics, Mr. Johnson animated the flight of the Marine Prowler jet that struck a ski gondola near Cavalese, Italy, which received worldwide coverage. Mr. Johnson's work was featured on CBS 60 Minutes, NBC Today Show, ABC Good Morning America and several network affiliates. His work has also been seen several times on Court TV and has been featured in articles appearing in the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, Law Office Computing and other publications.
In 2002 Mr. Johnson founded Forensic Arts in Los Angeles and today is the co-founder and chief creative officer of Visual Law Group and maintains offices in both Northern and Southern California. To date, Mr. Johnson has handled cases in every state of the union with the exception of Vermont and Delaware. He is a frequent speaker and contributor of articles for trade publications and treatises in fields involving demonstrative evidence and computer animation.
